summer house
Nestled in the countryside on the border of East Hampshire and Basingstoke and Dean, bahm had to negotiate with two planning departments in order to gain permission for this residential annex.
The existing dwelling is positioned in the centre of a long plot and the clients wanted a space from which they could enjoy the views of the countryside at the end of their garden.
Taking inspiration from local farm buildings, the simple barn like form is clad in black stained timber, red windows reclaimed from the original house and a red corrugated metal roof. Contemporary details are combined with these agricultural materials to ensure that, when viewed from afar, the structure appears naturally within Hampshire landscape.
From within, the exposed scissor trusses add drama to the simple form and the exposed studwork frame, in conjunction with the log burner, creates the feeling of a cosy woodland cabin.
